Selection of new members
Each year, the Young Academy selects a dozen new members.
They are solemnly inaugurated in March.
In brief
Members of the Young Academy are appointed for a period of 5 years.
The selection of new members follows from an open call for applications, usually published in November. It is announced through our social media channels and the communication services of universities, art colleges and scientific institutions.
Candidates submit a personal application (i.e., candidate-members can only apply themselves, not by nomination).
Criteria: New members are selected on the basis of scientific or artistic excellence, personal motivation and the contribution candidate members believe they can bring to the Young Academy.
Procedure: Incoming applications are reviewed by several Young Academy members (and sometimes by alumni with expertise in a particular field). On that basis, a selection committee of Young Academy members determines which candidates are invited to interview with the selection committee. The results are communicated shortly after the interviews.
Call for applications 2024-2029
The call for new members opens on Friday November 10, 2023 with a deadline on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. The exact terms and modalities for application are described in the call.
